I’ve attached my quarterly review report to this email, but I also wanted to quickly discuss the trends I’ve noticed in our sales data over the past few months.

We’ve sold over 10,000 new memberships over the past quarter, which is a 22% increase from Q4 of last year. Our data analysis shows that this upswing corresponds with the creation of company pages on various social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter, which allows more people to connect with us virtually. In fact, over half of our new memberships were purchased from links that were posted on our Facebook and Twitter profiles.

We’ve also had an 82% renewal rate in memberships that were set to expire in Q1. This is 16% higher than our renewal rate in Q4, which suggests that our new program—having sales associates contact members directly about renewing their memberships—is working even better than we had expected.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen the same rapid growth in the purchase of family memberships. While the number of FMs has increased by 2% over last quarter’s numbers, I believe we can get that number even higher. I’ve listed some suggestions in my report, but I would also like to add it to the agenda for our quarterly review meeting later this week.

Statement of the Problem or Need:  (Describe the purpose / need / rationale for the project. What problem is this project designed to address?) 

Cheezewiz is used by the Rodent Studies department to support both its research and its teaching activities. The software is used by researchers to track, record, and analyze data on various facets of rodent life cycles. For example; the software was used during research through which we were able to identify that rodents existing on an extremely high sodium diet experienced a significant reduction in the number of offspring.  

                All students in the department are taught how to use the software and many of their assignments are required to be done using Cheezewiz. Since Cheezewiz is one of the leading applications used by private sector organizations involved in this field, we feel that having experience with the software gives our graduates a leg up.  

The server on which the Cheezewiz software runs has been unsupported by the manufacturer since December of 2005. Support is currently being received through a contract with Cheezewiz Authorities, Inc. (CWAU) The contract expires at the end of the next calendar year. We have been warned by CWAU that there will be a significant increase in the support fees under any new contract.  

In addition, the process of backing up data from the existing server is extremely cumbersome. We have experienced a number of occasions where data has been inexplicably lost and had to be re-entered. As a result, we are keeping reams of printed reports in the research labs. 

Project Deliverables and Beneficiaries: (Describe the objective of the project; what the project is to achieve, create, or deliver. Please identify who will derive a direct benefit from the expected outcome.) 

At the end of the project we hope to have the current software running on a new, faster and more stable server. In addition, all of the existing data should have been moved from the old server to the new. All of the current functionality should still exist. Access to the system should still be controlled through the use of user IDs and passwords, which are administered by the department of Rodent Studies 

Students of the department will continue to benefit from the hands-on experience of working with Cheezwiz software. Less of their class time will be wasted waiting for server performance issues to be resolved. Researchers will benefit from the increased speed and reliability. 

Masjid Al-Haram

The Great Mosque of Mecca‎‎ (Masjid al-Ḥarām) is the largest mosque in the world and surrounds Islam's holiest place, the Kaaba, in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Muslims face in the Qibla (direction of the Kaaba) while performing Salat (obligatory daily prayers). One of the Five Pillars of Islam requires every Muslim to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, one of the largest annual gatherings of people in the world, at least once in his or her lifetime if able to do so, including Tawaf (circumambulation) of the Kaaba.

The current structure covers an area of 356,800 square metres (88.2 acres) including the outdoor and indoor praying spaces and is open at all times.

OTTOMANS

        In 1570, Sultan Selim II commissioned the chief architect Mimar Sinan to renovate the mosque. This renovation resulted in the replacement of the flat roof with domes decorated with calligraphy internally, and the placement of new support columns which are acknowledged as the earliest architectural features of the present mosque. These features are the oldest surviving parts of the building. 

      During heavy rains and flash floods in 1621 and 1629, the walls of the Kaaba and the mosque suffered extensive damage. In 1629, during the resign of Sultan Murad IV, the Kaaba was rebuilt with stones from Mecca and the mosque was renovated. In the renovation of the mosque, a new stone arcade was added, three more minarets (bringing the total to 7) were built, and the marble flooring.

SAUDIS

      The first major renovation under the Saudi kings was done between 1955 and 1973. In this renovation, four more minarets were added, the ceiling was refurnished, and the floor was replaced with artificial stone and marble. During this renovation many of the historical features built by the Ottomans, particularly the support columns, were demolished. 

     The second Saudi renovations under King Fahd, added a new wing and an outdoor prayer area to the mosque. The new wing, which is also for prayers, is accessed through the King Fahd Gate. This extension was performed between 1982 and 1988. 

     The third Saudi extension (1988–2005) was the building of more minarets, the erecting of a King's residence overlooking the mosque and more prayer area in and around the mosque itself. These developments have taken place simultaneously with those in Arafat, Mina and Muzdalifah. This third extension has also resulted in 18 more gates, three domes corresponding in position to each gate and the installation of nearly 500 marble columns. Other modern developments include the addition of heated floors, air conditioning, escalators and a drainage system.

Current Expansion Project

     In 2007, the mosque underwent a fourth extension project which is estimated to last until 2020. King Abdullah Ibn Abdul aziz planned to increase the mosque's capacity to 2 million, although the King died in 2015, his successor, King Salman, is likely to continue renovations.

     Northern expansion of the mosque began in August 2011 and was expected to be completed in one and a half years. The area of the mosque will be expanded from the current 356,000 m2 (3,830,000 sq ft) to 400,000 m2 (4,300,000 sq ft). The cost of the project is $10.6 billion.
